Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special. It is also the embodiment of the Scandinavian culture known for their minimalism and clean lifestyle.
Introducing HAAKON Superfoods & Juice, a bright and airy cafe known for its light wood decor and inspirational quotes, which makes it a perfect place to wind down and put your feet up (not literally!).

Now, Scandinavian culture may seem fuss-free and easy, but it is a difficult concept to incorporate and yet make it attractive for all palates. This is especially so for health foods, as some people may view this dietary choice as bland and boring.
What makes this cafe unique is their menu – it is inclusive for all diets, with an incredible selection of vegan options, and even gluten-free and paleo-friendly dishes. For those with a heavier palate, there are richer and protein-rich options too.
Having tried their food, here’re 5 of our favourite picks:
For fans of mentaiko and raw salmon, this poké bowl screams perfection. This star of the dish presents itself in large buttery chunks while the mentaiko adds a burst of saltiness. There is also ample portions of brown rice, marinated kelp, dried seaweed, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber to keep you satiated.
The crowning glory comes in the form of an onsen egg perfectly done. Just look at that!

The açaí bowl is a nutrient-packed meal in itself topped with healthy sweet treats from cocoa nibs to homemade almond butter to chia seed parfait. Who can say no to this glorious dessert?
If you like a little spice in your life while keeping things clean and simple, try the Red Curry Chicken. This low-carb dish is packed with fibrous low carbs and lean protein. Combined with delicious spices, it gives a perfect balance without having to battle with the grease of the usual curries.
Don’t think that salads and healthy bowls are only a mish-mash of vegetables and basic proteins. The Falafel & Quinoa Bowl provides an exotic edge for those who want to try something different, and different it is. Every ingredient serves its purpose in giving you that natural boost, right down to the zoodles (zuccini noodles) you’ll find in the bowl. If you, like me, cannot stomach beetroot by itself, you would be glad to know that they whip the beetroot into a hummus, which is a creamy match to the falafel.
For a more filling portion, they have the Turkish Platter which also contains rye bread and some other extras at only $1 more.
On top of their aesthetics, we especially love how soft and flavourful their meats and protein are, unlike some salad places which serve up refrigerated meats creating the trademark hard-to-chew texture.
And there you have it! Apart from poké and salad bowls, HAAKON Superfoods & Juice serves up an amazing spread of all-day breakfast such as the Big Breakfast at $19.90, avo toasts and smoothies. If you are feeling creative, you’ll be glad to know that you can also craft your own meal instead.
With the prices of main dishes starting from $9.90 and nothing over $20, it is definitely a place to bookmark for good healthy food.
A minimum order of $30 is required for delivery, but this charge will be waived if you make an order of $80 and above. Their delivery website is here.
