Want to feel like you’re out of Singapore even though traveling is now much, much more difficult? One option is to slap on an Oculus, pick a video game and live life there in Virtual Reality (VR) mode. Another option is to plan a trip to Snow City, where the environment is constantly maintained at -5 degrees Celsius and take part in the newly launched Winter Shooting Arena, which is for participants that are 14 years and above.
Situated in 21 Jurong Town Hall Road, Snow City is a subsidiary of Science Centre Holdings Pte Ltd and has been in operation for 20 years. Snow City is so immense that it takes up to 150 tons of snow to cover its grounds! Week after week, the snow gun pumps out 10 – 15 tons of snow that helps to sustain the frost.
Over the years, it has been a welcome retreat for families of all kinds and also an ideal venue for team building events.
The Winter Shooting Arena which was just launched on 4th September has 2 modes. You and your friends can opt for the Close Quarter Battle from $33. Or if you prefer to go at it alone, but together, you may choose Target Shooting which is $19 for one round. Both activities include 1 hour of snow play.
At hand to guide those who may be new to shooting are ex-military men, including one who used to represent Singapore on the world stage.
Afraid this may not be your cup of tea or do you have young ones in tow who can’t participate? Worry not. There’s a Arctic Snow Playground, Arctic Snow Slide and if you miss those bumper car rides of your youth, Snow City has Drift On Ice, in which you can commandeer perfectly round bumper cars that operate on ice.
Snow City is a 10 minute bus ride away from Jurong East MRT Station. Walk to the temporary bus interchange and then take either bus 41, 49, 52, 105, 160, 183, 334, 160A or 160M.
Whether you were there to experience the historic hail that fell on Jurong in 2013, you should consider coming to Snow City. Don’t you want to take a little vacation out of Singapore, in Singapore? Which activities are you looking forward to try?
