7 Easy-To-Make DIY Body Scrubs

Keeping your face and body fresh and smooth is not just seen as a way of pampering yourself, it is actually a good way to keep your skin looking vibrant and healthy. Some people even see it as a way of relaxation before a good night’s sleep.

Using a body scrub is a popular way to exfoliate your skin where it removes the top layer of dead skin cells as you massage the product on your body. Dead skin cells harden with age and it becomes thicker and thicker till it is finally removed. Layers of dead skin cells can make the skin look dry and flaky. Therefore, it is important to exfoliate your skin every once in a while to reveal the moist and shiny skin hidden underneath.

There are plenty of store-bought varieties out there but you can actually make your own body scrub at home using ingredients you already have in your kitchen.

After months of neglect from staying home, it's time to power up the beauty routine so that you'll return to work glowing. Here are a few body scrub recipes to try at home.

Coffee Scrub

Danyel Cosmetics

Coffee can do a lot more than just giving you that instant caffeine boost in the morning. If you love the aroma of coffee, then there’s no doubt you are going to love this scrub. The caffeine actually helps to improve blood circulation and may reduce the appearance of cellulite and give your skin a more even tone.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup coffee grounds

  • 2 tbsp hot water

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, warmed

Method

  1. Add the coffee grounds and hot water to a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly with a spoon.

  2. Add the coconut oil. If needed, add more coffee grounds or more oil to get the consistency right.

  3. When you are satisfied with the consistency, spoon the mixture into a container.

Brown Sugar Scrub

Ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup oil of choice, such as coconut, jojoba, olive, almond, or grapeseed

  • Essential oils (optional)

Method

  1. Combine brown sugar and oil in a mixing bowl.

  2. Mix thoroughly. If needed, add more sugar or oil to get the consistency right.

  3. If desired, add one or two drops of your favourite essential oil, and stir it into the mixture.

  4. When you’re satisfied with the consistency and fragrance of your scrub, spoon it into a container.

Sea Salt Scrub

It’s not an understatement to say that sea salt is the ultimate all-natural beauty ingredient. One of the biggest benefits of salt scrubs is the afterglow because sea salt is a natural detoxifier that absorbs the toxins from the skin. It also packs with lots of anti-inflammatory benefits so it’s good to sooth those puffy eyes.

Sea salt has a nice density for a body scrub compared to your regular table salt which may be too abrasive and may cause tiny cuts to your skin.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sea salt

  • ½ cup oil of your choice

  • Essential oil (optional)

Method

  1. Combine sea salt and oil in a mixing bowl.

  2. Mix thoroughly. If needed, add more salt or oil to get the consistency right.

  3. If desired, add one or two drops of your favourite essential oil and stir it into the mixture.

  4. When you’re satisfied with the consistency and fragrance of your scrub, spoon it into a container.
