Save Money At Swap Shops When You Trade In Your Old Clothes

We’re all guilty of a wardrobe teeming with clothes we’ve only worn once or twice, yet we still proclaim glumly every morning that we have nothing to wear. Wouldn’t it be great if we could trade in our old, unwanted clothing items for new pieces to wear instead?

Cue swap shops, Singapore’s newest trend that provides a sustainable alternative to your run-of-the-mill retail therapy. You can trade-in your pre-loved articles of clothing for credits at these swap shops, which you can then use to purchase second-hand clothes to bring home.

How It Works

Customers can bring in their pre-loved clothing for assessment from staff members. Once deemed eligible for sale, customers will earn credits which they can then use to purchase other second-hand clothing items to bring home.

If germs and bacteria are your primary concern, have no fear. Every donated piece of clothing is washed, dried and screened for defects before making it to the clothing rack for customers to purchase. Also, customers who are interested in trade-in their second-hand items have to ensure their clothing meets a set of criteria before bringing them into the store for an assessment.

Why Swap Shops?

According to the United Nations’ Environment Programme, the fashion industry alone is responsible for up to a tenth of global carbon emissions. Singapore produced over 168,000 tonnes of leather and textile waste in 2019 alone. To put that into perspective, that’s the combined weight of 400 Boeing 747 planes.

With rising concerns about sustainability, shoppers have started turning to swap shops as an alternative for retail therapy. With each recycled and resold piece of clothing, swap shops help to cut down textile wastage while providing swappers choices ranging from casual everyday wear to high fashion gems.

And the best part? Customers don’t have to compromise their style when shopping! Swap shops give the dedicated fashionista a platform to be creative with a plethora of options at their fingertips. It’s truly a treasure trove!

The Fashion Pulpit

Founded by Filipino clothes designer Raye Padit, The Fashion Pulpit is one of Singapore’s leading swap shops. Customers can find different kinds of pre-loved clothing ranging from casual streetwear to high fashion pieces from Prada and even Christian Louboutin.
