Seen: A Nationwide Karaoke Session Of "Home" To Cheer On Frontline & Migrant Workers

Last night (25 April 2020) at 7.55pm, those living in the sunny island of Singapore took part in an islandwide karaoke session to sing “Home” (originally renditioned by Kit Chan).

This initiative was created to thank the healthcare and migrant workers living in dormitories. It also aimed to encourage all Singaporeans to keep their spirits high and to stay united as everyone remains at home during the extended circuit breaker period.

At exactly 7.55pm, the quiet night was broken by smatterings of obscure voices attempting to kickstart the singing. In a matter of seconds, cheers can be heard from all around as flashlights shone through the night, waving to the beat of the iconic national favourite “Home”.

While singing cannot be heard clearly from where we were, there was a strong sense of camaraderie of a nation facing a common threat and being in this together. The cheers and whoops rang strong for a whole 5 minutes – even the vehicles driving by joined in.

Though the intention was to do an impromptu recording of the singing session and upload it on social media platforms, most Singaporeans took on the role as cheerleaders at their windows instead. Check out the videos taken from all parts of Singapore!

Some braver souls took to their social media to belt one out.

This initiative was led by Dick Lee and joined by several celebrities such as Taufik Batisah, Venetta Lopez and Felicia Chin. Watch their video here:

While there are some who feel that this initiative may be meaningless and do nothing to improve the current situation, the fact that many people end up staying home so as to participate helps reduce the number of social contact. So I say it is a good and heartwarming idea all in all!
