Shilin Night Market Goes Digital

Returning for its second edition, the popular night festival, Shilin Night Market 2020 will be bringing all fun digitally over two weekends, June 12 – 14 and June 19-21 from 3pm – 11pm.

The digital festival attempts to bring the sights, sounds, and tastes of Taiwan straight to your homes by offering online shopping, livestream performances, virtual games and food delivery options from vendors. By going online, the Shilin Night Market hopes to shine a spotlight on F&B and retail operators who have been affected during this difficult time.

Keeping the four zones Eat, Shop, Play and Fun, expect to find close to 100 local and regional vendors such as Playmade, D’bun, Yin Zhu Handmade Soap, Scent by Six and Mori. Each store will be allocated a digital booth on its official website, where it details the products or services, as well as a video (presumably live) where patrons can get updated on their orders.

In addition, the public can look forward to cooking segments led by Aaron Wong and variety shows hosted by media personalities like SGAG. Through the live streams, patrons can interact directly with the various retail and F&B vendors to purchase their products.

Last year, the night market which held at Turf Club attracted massive crowds to its event with people flocking to try out the first-time-in-Singapore Taiwanese brands such as Devil Evolution Chicken, bubble tea Milksha and ChiaTe, which specialises Taiwanese pineapple cakes. Even if you weren’t there for the food, who could forget the Tokidoki X Gong Cha Funhouse that bubble tea lovers and influencers wouldn’t stop posting on social media?

The full list of participating vendors this year has not been released officially, but we are hopeful there are unique and cult favourites that we can look forward to. Oyster mee sua, braised pork rice and crispy chicken!

While nothing beats being there in person with your family and friends to experience the sights and sounds an outdoor night market has to offer, perhaps going through this virtually can save us on the long queuing hours under the hot sun or rainy weather. Plus, with just a click away, you are able to watch livestream performances by local artists while you wait for your food to be done, instead of having to leave your spot in the past.

To get you hyped up for the event, Shilin Singapore 2020 will be hosting giveaways, contents and giveaways from now till the end of the event.

What are some of your favourite Taiwanese or local snack you hope to see at Shilin Night Market this year?
