Top 5 Songs We’re Singing Once We Can Hit The KTVs Again

Credit: taiken

KTV fans, rejoice! Come January, we may finally be able to spend weekends doing karaoke with our friends again.

According to an article released yesterday by The Straits Times, you’ll be able to book a room with up to four friends once the pilot programme starts. You’ll also be able to dine together, of course. Safe management measures will also apply. You will need to be a Singapore resident or a work pass permit holder. Finally, you will also need to be able to prove that you tested negative for COVID-19 within the last 24 hours.

All that notwithstanding, if all goes well and Singapore sails ahead to Phase 3, we know what we’re going to be singing when we pick up the microphones with our friends.

Kill This Love by BLACKPINK

If you’re a bona fide Blink, you’ll know that their music video Kill This Love has surpassed 1 Billion views on Youtube.  Soompi, the K-pop entertainment news site announced yesterday that this set a new record, as the faster K-pop video to reach 1.1 Billion .

Positions by Ariana Grande

If you’re the kind of person who talks about absolutely everything with their besties, like everything, then you probably can’t wait to sing Positions by Ariana Grande with them. This sex-soaked track from Ariana Grande is smooth like the smoothest of R&B bedroom sounds. Perhaps this will become this generation’s It’s Only Love Doing Its Thing, by Barry White.

Stupid Love by Lady Gaga

Honestly, it was different to just pick one from Chromatica, the singer’s album that was released earlier this year in May. We’re putting Stupid Love out there because it’s the catchiest but honestly, any track with lyrics your friends also remember is good.

Party In The USA by Miley Cyrus

If you’re still recovering from following the tumultuous US Presidential elections, yeah, me too. Party In The USA by Miley Cyrus was apparently blasted on the streets and danced to after it became clear that Joe Biden was going to beat Donald Trump. Another popular track that revelers uh, reveled to was FDT by YG and Nipsey Hussle.

Jump by Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen was only 65 when he passed away earlier in October. Nevertheless, his band, Van Halen, has a legacy that will likely outlive the man for decades, at least. Jump was released in 1983 and became Van Halen’s most successful single as it rocketed its way all the way to #1 on the Billboard charts.

So go on, be safe and get out there and take a leap – straight into the KTV bars once they reopen.

We don’t know when that is yet but we’ll be keeping an eye on it. We’ll be paying especially close attention to Teo Heng KTV, which is a popular KTV chain that has outlets all over the country. Their dogged determination to keep paying their staff, even as COVID-19 clobbers their business is extremely commendable. Our thoughts are with the Singaporean friends and families that bonded over singing karaoke at Teo Heng KTV – and the staff of Teo Heng whose futures must look pretty uncertain right now.

We hope that as the COVID-19 situation continues to stabilize, that Singapore will have a smooth transition to Phase 3 and that Teo Heng’s troubles will soon be .
